ORNL Group Tours: Virtual options now available.



The ORNL Group Tour Program offers guided tours of the laboratory where visitors learn more about its facilities, research, operations, and rich history. Tours of the main campus are available for middle schools (grades 5-8) and high schools (grades 9-12), colleges and universities, and civic and community groups. Due to COVID-19, all in person tours are suspended. However, virtual facility tours are available.

DOE Public Bus Tour of all Oak Ridge Facilities

  • NOTICE: All in-person tours are suspended until further notice.
  • The Public Bus Tour of the Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge facilities runs from March to November.
  • Tours depart weekdays at 11:30 am, returning around 2:30 pm.

More than 25,000 people from all 50 states have taken this tour since its inception in 1996. Tour stops include the Y-12 History Center at the Y-12 National Security Complex’s New Hope Center, the Spallation Neutron Source and historic Graphite Reactor at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and a drive-around the former K-25 plant site located at the East Tennessee Technology Park. Tour guides provide historical narrative along with information about current activities related to research and development, national security, and environmental clean-up.
